Personally i wouldn't shy away from using word for a community directory and the reason i say that is in my experience community directories are usually more than just names, address and pictures. Is there an easy way to create a directory with photos to share, possibly in word or excel? I purchased a copy of ms publisher. Some have been asking for a digital version which we can't offer at this point.
